Highway 401, the Canadian side of i-90, would never be listed as a must-visit attraction, particularly not mid-winter. Grey skies, 5 lane highway, flat land, the occasional Tim Hortons. And in my case, a bit of a blizzard.
I was driving back from a 27 minute border appointment in Detroit (to get my Canada-US border-crossing fast track pass!). The only colour I could see was red from car break lights. Everything else: white, black, or a combination of the two.
But this very boring, regular, straight, uneventful road was part of my home. And as I drove, I felt an overwhelming warmth. This place is beautiful and no one would stop to take a picture. It is safe, clean, practical, peaceful, well-maintained. There is a snow storm and I have 4 more hours of driving and yet the roads are salted and everyone’s driving with precaution; how absolutely magical.
